Daniel François Esprit Auber is, together with Jacques Offenbach, the main exponent of French Comic Opera.
With more than 40 operas at his name, his contribution to the genre is unique. This collection of scores includes some of his early works – for the first time available to the public.
Actéon is a one-act work on the theme of jealousy reworks the Greek myth of the goddess Diana and the young hunter Actaeon. The Overture is dominated by Mediterranean rhythms: a vigorous bolero encloses a beautiful hushed central movement, the sicilienne, perfectly establishing the idyllic nature and mood of the slight story.
